“Conservation, Markets & the Environment in Southern Africa: Commodifying the ‘Wild’”, edited by Sharing a Planet in Peril (SAPP) member Michael Bollig in collaboration with Selma Lendelvo, Alfons Mosimane and Romie Nghitevelekwa (University of Namibia & CRC-TRR Future Rural Africa Project A04 Future Conservation) is part of the Choice Outstanding Academic Title 2023 list. The list reflects the best in scholarly titles, both print and digital, reviewed by Choice, a publishing unit of the Association of College and Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association, during the past year. Only ten percent of the roughly 5000 publications reviewed by Choice annually make the Outstanding Academic Title list.
“Conservation, Markets & the Environment in Southern Africa: Commodifying the ‘Wild’” is the culmination of years of interdisciplinary research and international cooperation within the Collaborative Research Centre Future Rural Africa, which is on of our members’ third party funded projects. The joint effort involves scholars from the University of Cologne, University of Bonn and the University of Namibia (UNAM), dating back as far as 2019 when a joint workshop titled “Commodifying “the ‘Wild’: Conservation, Markets & the Environment in Southern Africa” was conducted at UNAM’s Katima Mulilo Campus.
