Clemens Greiner Appointed Extraordinary Professor at the University of the Western Cape
“Sharing a Planet in Peril” (SAPP) member Clemens Greiner, Academic Coordinator of the Global South Studies Center (GSSC) and adjunct Professor of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Cologne, has recently been appointed Extraordinary Professor at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in South Africa. The appointment marks the culmination of years of collaboration between Greiner and UWC, in particular the University’s Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS).
Greiner recently received third-party funding by the Volkswagen Fundation for a research project titled Medium-Scale Farmers in Rural Africa: Transformations in Belonging, Property, Kinship and Power, which also features fellow SAPP members Professor Ruth Hall, the newly appointed director of PLAAS, Prof. Michael Bollig (University of Cologne) and Prof. Emmanuel Sulle (Aga Khan University, Arusha Climate and Environmental Research Centre, Tanzania), as well as Prof. Kojo Amanor from the University of Ghana.
