Nsah Mala Named Chairperson of Newly Created Mbessa Kingdom Indigenous Commission for Future Generations and Sustainability in Cameroon and Africa
The Mbessa Commission for Future Generations and Sustainability has been created, thus becoming the first indigenous initiative in Cameroon aimed at driving the implementation of the outcomes of the United Nations Summit of the Future.
Created by His Majesty Foyn Gilbert Njong III, King of Mbessa Kingdom, the multiple-member Commission has been placed under the chairpersonship of Faay Ntumfoyn Dr Nsah Mala, who doubles as the Coordinator of the University of Cologne’s Hub for Planetary Wellbeing within the UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES Coalition, and as a Next Generation Foresight Practitioner (NGFP) Fellow at the School of International Futures (SOIF).
Among other goals, the Mbessa Commission is tasked with embedding foresight and long-term governance into indigenous administrative mechanisms, mitigating climate change and protecting biological and cultural diversities, pursuing sustainable development, promoting indigenous knowledge, and ensuring consideration for the needs and wellbeing of present and future generations.
The Commission comprises initially of 13 members drawn from indigenous administration, modern administration, development associations like MADA, language committee, youth groups, women and men groups, research and academia.
