Final Installment of GSSC Citizen Science Event Series on Textile Industry and Global Supply Chains


The final installment of the event series “Fair Trade? Textile Industry and Global Supply Chains” is taking place on Thursday, 11 July 2024 at the University of Cologne. In this session, a panel of five experts will discuss the topic “The Future of Fashion: Perspectives and Challenges for Sustainable and Fair Clothing Production”.

This event marks the fifth and final session of the event series “Fair Trade? Textile Industry and Global Supply Chains”, a cooperation of the University of Cologne’s Citizen Science project group ‘Textile Clothing – Fair Production and Fair Trade,’ the Global South Studies Center (GSSC), the Competence Center for Fair Trade, the Geographical Society of Cologne (GfE), and the Coordination Office for Science and Public Relations at the University of Cologne.

The events in the series featured experts from various relevant fields including academia, NGOs and the private sector. Each session tackled the question of fair trade and the textile industry from a different perpective ranging from general labour standards to working conditions in the Bangladeshi textile sector, The European Supply Chain Due Diligence Act and the impact of quality seals. The final session on the future of fashion and perspectives and challenges for sustainable textile production aims to tie up loose ends and provide an outlook for the future.
